TV On The Radio bass player Gerard Smith has passed away following a battle with lung cancer.
One of the most groundbreaking indie rock groups of their generation, TV On The Radio were a band in every sense of the word. A collective where the sum of its parts is worth more than an individual, each member contributes greatly to the writing process.
Returning with their new album ‘Nine Types Of Light’ the band appeared to be reinvigorated. However TV On The Radio shocked fans with the news that Gerard Smith had contracted lung cancer.
Pulling out of their world tour, the bass player underwent emergency treatment. Sadly, though, Gerard Smith passed away yesterday (April 20th) following a short battle with ill health.
A statement from the group reads:
We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly.
Track in tribute to follow!! later today
